Year 8

HESC within the Department of Curriculum Management, provides two on-premises programmes for Year 8 students.

The interactive programme ‘Aliens in Our Food’ highlights the importance of food safety and hygiene.  It also aims to engage students in sound food safety behaviours at school, at home and in the community.  During this programme emphasis is laid on the importance of safe practices when purchasing, transporting, storing, preparing, cooking and serving food.  Students are given the opportunity to observe and identify both personal and kitchen hygiene unsafe practices through real life scenarios. Case studies featuring popular celebrities handling food in various situations are analysed and discussed by the students.  Moreover, adolescents are encouraged to come up with good daily practices on the prevention of food contamination and food poisoning.
