The Home Economics Seminar Centre within the Department of Curriculum Management worked in collaboration with Dr Suzanne Piscopo on this project.  The sessions emphasised the importance of vegetables and fruit as part of our daily diet and targeted pupils in Kinder 1 up to Year 3.

Special assemblies initiated with an animated introduction on the importance of healthy eating, particularly plant foods.  Pupils were involved in discussions as well as in games such as the ‘feely bag’ game where pupils had to close their eyes and guess what type of vegetable or fruit they had picked up from the bag. These sessions also highlighted the importance of being physically active.

Afterwards, pupils were invited to welcome a special guest, the popular vegetable and fruit mascot Fonzu l-Fenek.  Pupils had the opportunity to chat about healthy eating with Fonzu l-Fenek and were encouraged to sing and dance the Haxix u Frott and Fonzu l-Fenek songs which were both projected on screen as well as animated by Fonzu l-Fenek.  As a conclusion, Fonzu l-Fenek encouraged pupils to make a pledge in order to eat more vegetables and fruit and to be more physically active.  Fonzu l-Fenek also distributed healthy recipe leaflets or drawing books as a gift to pupils celebrating their birthday.
