Practicals Targeting Parents


Teachers at the HESC in liaison with the Senior Management Team and staff at the Tbissima Child Care Centre, organised a healthy food event for parents on the 29th of May 2015. This event featured two practical interventions related to the preparation of healthy packed lunches. Prior to the practical interventions the parents were actively involved in a discussion about food safety and personal hygiene.  Parents had the opportunity to learn and follow  hygiene and safety rules  during the practical session.  Following this session, parents were divided in groups and prepared five different healthy dishes which can be used as packed lunches. Dishes included a healthy dip accompanied by fresh vegetables, pizza swirls, tuna and veggie couscous, chickpea patties, hummus and veggie wrap and veal with sweet potatoes, peas and basil.  The main aim of this event was to help parents learn basic food preparation skills as well as to practise safety and hygiene procedures while preparing food.
