The Directorate for Learning and Assessment Programmes, Ministry for Education and Employability (MEDE), in collaboration with the Malta Bankers’ Association (MBA) and a number of other stakeholders have coordinated several activities to mark the European Money Week and Global Money Week.

The official Money Week Launch took place on Monday 25th March 2019 at St. Ignatius College, Middle School, Ħandaq. A footage outlining the activities which took place in preparation for the Money Week was shown during the launch.  Prior to the launch, Year 5 to Year 8 pupils in all Maltese State, Church and Independent Schools and educational entities were invited to participate in a Financial Literacy Challenge. The winners were announced during the launch and various prizes were provided by the Malta Bankers’ Association.

A training seminar aimed to equip Home Economics teachers with skills, knowledge and competences in financial related topics was held prior to the launch. Speakers who facilitated the training seminar hailed from various local banks.

The ‘Money Matters’ programme offered at the Home Economics Seminar Centre was facilitated to Year 6 pupils. The programme ‘Be Wise Pay Smart’was facilitated by Home Economics Support teachers and Banking professionals to Year 10 students following the CCP and Year 9-11 students following the Managing Money Unit as part of the PTI Achieve Programme. This included a hands-on exploration of the use of ATM’s and EPOS terminals coupled with interactive educational sketches and discussions in two local banks.

This year’s programme included an innovative event to raise awareness amongst students in relation to cyber security and online payments.
